What is PEMF
PEMF recovery for Quarter Horses, explained.
What a session is, what your horse will feel, and how it fits with the care your horse already gets.
What PEMF is
PEMF stands for pulsed electromagnetic field. During a session, a coil connected to a high-power PEMF machine is placed over your horse's body. The machine sends short magnetic pulses through the coil and into the muscles and tissue below.
Horse owners use PEMF as part of a recovery routine to help their horses relax and feel loose after hard work. It is noninvasive and drug-free, and nothing is given to your horse.
What a session looks like
- Your horse stays in its own stall, tied or held.
- We start at a low setting and adjust to how your horse responds.
- The coil moves over the neck, shoulders, back, hips and legs.
- A full-body session takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
- Most horses relax, lower their heads and lick and chew.
Why it suits show week
Show horses haul long distances, spend the week in a stall, and often have only an hour or two to rest between rides. A session fits into those gaps without taking your horse out of its routine or away from the barn.
What the research says
PEMF is widely used with performance horses. In one 2022 survey, 85% of riders said they had used PEMF on their performance horses. Research on horses is growing, with promising early results, and we keep our claims to what the evidence supports: sessions are for comfort, relaxation and recovery.
Our promise
Wellness and recovery, never a substitute for your vet.
We do not diagnose or treat injuries or disease. Every horse is screened with an intake form, and anything that looks medical goes straight back to your veterinarian.

Common questions about PEMF for horses
What is PEMF therapy for horses?
PEMF stands for pulsed electromagnetic field. A coil placed on or near your horse sends magnetic pulses into the muscles and tissue underneath. It is used across the performance horse world as part of a recovery and wellness routine.
Does it hurt? How do horses react?
Most horses stand quietly, and many relax, lower their heads and lick and chew. You may see small muscle twitches where the coil is working. We start at a low setting and adjust to your horse.
How long is a session?
A full-body session takes about 30 to 45 minutes in your horse's stall.
When should my horse have a session at a show?
Many owners like a session after hauling in, between classes, or at the end of a long show day. We will work with you or your trainer to time sessions around your class schedule.
Is anything given to my horse?
No. Nothing is injected, fed or applied to the skin, so there is nothing given to your horse during a session.
Is PEMF allowed at shows?
We confirm the rules with show management before every show we work, and we follow each show's policies on therapies and stabling areas.
Does PEMF replace my veterinarian?
No. Our sessions are for wellness and recovery only. We do not diagnose or treat injuries or disease. If something looks like an injury, we will ask you to call your veterinarian.
Is every horse a good fit?
Every horse is screened with a short intake form before its first session. For a mare in foal, a horse with a recent injury or injection, or a horse under a veterinarian's care, we will ask you to check with your vet first.
